Sunday, July 27, 2014 At 9:58am, the USRFD was dispatched to an alarm activation on Willow Hill. Asst Chief Vierheilig (IC) and Engine 1232 (OIC FF Andrews) responded. Crews investigated to find alarm activated due to burnt food in kitchen. The home was vented naturally and once alarm was reset, all units returned to HQ.
Wednesday, July 23, 2014 Today, new energy efficient windows were installed in the USR Firehouse. The department purchased the windows using funds collected from our annual fund drive donations and contributions from local organizations. Labor to install the windows was donated by local renovation contractor Castle Builders, owned by USRFD firefighter Greg Andrews. Tomorrow, window trim will be installed. Next, bay lighting will be upgraded and ceiling and walls painted. Many thanks to Greg at Castle Builders!
The USR firehouse is owned by the fire department, not by the town like in most Bergen County municipalities. So a large portion of fund drive donations collected goes to the upkeep of the building as well as capital expenditures like windows, furnace upgrade, bay floor refinishing, hall upgrades, painting etc. Interested in donating to the USRFD? Tuesday, July 22, 2014 Update on the USR Memorial Plaza project. The 9/11 steel support bracket is being fabricated and near completion. Once this is installed, the seat wall will be placed followed by the pavers. Additionally, the existing flagpole will be refinished in the next few weeks. Stay tuned for more updates.
