Tonight, the USRFD is participating in the annual Wallington Holiday parade. It’s a great event; if you don’t have plans tonight head down to the parade and support the USRFD and area Fire Departments.

USRFD Responds to Electrical Fire

At 730pm, the USRFD was dispatched to an electrical fire at a residence on Northern Drive. Asst Chief Vierheilig (IC), Engine 1232 (OIC/Ops Lt Lupinacci), and Tanker 1233 responded. Crews investigated to find a shorted electrical wire feeding driveway lighting. The circuit was isolated and area checked for extension. Once clear, all units returned to HQ. Many thanks to the volunteers for taking time away from their families on Thanksgiving to serve their community. 100% volunteer 24/7/365!!

USRFD and HHKFD Respond to Smoke Condition

Tonight at 5:40pm, the USRFD was dispatched to a smoke condition in a residence on Timberlane Road. Chief Vogelsang (IC), Engine 1232 (OIC FF Roberts), Engine 1233 (OIC Capt Sklar), a HoHoKus Engine and two HHKFD Chiefs responded. Crews immediately investigated to find the 200 amp main breaker on the electrical panel melted. Orange and Rockland was requested to respond. Crews used electric vent fans to clear the heavy smoke from the home. Once clear, all units were returned to their respective firehouses. Thanks to the HHKFD for the assist.

Extrication Drill at USRFD

On Wednesday night, members of the USRFD drilled on two vehicles in a simulated motor vehicle accident. After stabilizing the vehicles, crews used a compliment of hydraulic tools for door and roof removal.

Passing of Ex-Chief Lou Manke

It is with great regret to announce the passing of Lou Manke, Ex-Chief and Life Member of the USRFD; father of past members John, Ron, and Pete, and husband of USRFD Ladies Auxiliary member Joyce. Lou will certainly be missed by all of us at the USRFD.

MVC Route 17 South

Last night at 5:30pm, the USRFD was dispatched to a 5 vehicle accident on Route 17 South. Asst Chief Vierheilig (IC) and Rescue 1242 (OIC FF McGuire) responded. Crews used speedy dry on a fluid spill from one of the vehicles and firefighters assisted with debris cleanup and supplied scene lighting using the light tower on the rescue. Once the vehicles were towed from the scene, all units returned to HQ.

FD Responds to CO Alarm Activation

At 9:29pm, the USRFD was dispatched to a home on Hillcrest Drive for an activated carbon monoxide alarm. Asst Chief Vierheilig arrived on scene, followed by Engine 1232 (OIC Lt Lupinacci) and Chief Vogelsang. Crews checked the residence with two meters, finding zero readings of CO throughout. Once clear, all returned to HQ.
