FD Responds to Grill Fire

Tonight at 5:57pm, the USRFD was dispatched to a home on Old Chimney Road for a grill fire behind the residence. Engine 1232 (OIC FF Andrews) responded. The blaze was extinguished prior to arrival but crews shut the grill down and checked for extension. Once under control, all units returned to HQ.

FD Responds to Back to Back Calls

This afternoon, the USRFD responded to back to back calls to locations within the borough.

The first came in at around noon sending units to a residence on Union Ave. Chief Vogelsang (IC), Asst Chief Vierheilig (Ops) and Engine 1231 (OIC FF Yamaki) responded. Crews investigated to find an alarm malfunction.

The second alarm activated at a church on West Saddle River Road shortly after units cleared the first call. Asst Chief Vierheilig (IC) and Engine 1232 (OIC FF Roberts) arrived on scene to find an alarm malfunction. Once clear all units returned.

FD Dispatched to Alarm Activation

At 2:08pm, the USRFD was dispatched to respond to an audible alarm going off in a residence on Ridge Road, called in by a neighbor. Asst Chief Vierheilig (IC) and Engine 1232 (OIC FF Andrews) responded. Crews throughly investigated the vacant home to find a system malfunction but no smoke or fire. Once clear, all units returned to HQ.

USRFD Responds to Late Night Motor Vehicle Crash

At 1:25am, the USRFD was dispatched to a fluid spill as a result of a motor vehicle crash on Lake Street. Asst Chief Vierheilig (IC), Engine 1232 (OIC Capt Sklar), and Chief Vogelsang responded. Crews used speedy dry absorbent on the roadway spill. Once the vehicle was removed by flatbed, all units returned to HQ.

Fire Alarm Brings Together Brother Firefighters

At 3:16pm, the USRFD was dispatched to a home on Iron Latch West for an activated fire alarm. Engine 1232 (OIC FF Andrews) responded. Crews investigated to find the alarm activated due to a malfunction. While on scene, crews chatted with brother firefighters from Paramus and Mahwah that were at a party at the home. Once clear, all units returned to HQ.

USRFD Welcomes New Junior FFs

The USRFD would like to welcome three new junior firefighters that joined the program this year; Nolan Stern, Eric Rizzo, and Jase Barrack. They will be working alongside junior members Greg Pink and Joe Torres. Greg Pink, who joined the program last year holds the title of Junior Captain. Welcome aboard and we look forward to working with you as you progress to active firefighters. Interested in joining the junior firefighter program? Project Santa is Near!!

Are you ready for USRFDs Project Santa 2014? Be sure to get your gifts in to be on the list for gift delivery by Santa on Saturday. Gift drop off is on Wednesday 5-8pm and Thursday 5-8pm at the USRFD Firehouse. Delivery to USR homes is on Saturday 4-8pm traveling on a fire truck.
