THANKSGIVING SAFETY TIPS

Thanksgiving is the leading day for home fires involving cooking equipment, with three times the average number.

The kitchen is the heart of the home, especially at Thanksgiving. Kids love to be involved in holiday preparations. Safety in the kitchen is important, especially on Thanksgiving Day when there is a lot of activity and people at home.

Tonight the USRFD was dispatched to a home on Terhune Ct. for an activated alarm. USRPD arrived on scene first to confirm a smoke condition in the basement. Moments later Chief Vierheilig and Asst. Chief Rauch arrived to find an electronic device had caught fire and was contained to the room with no extension. Engine 1232 (OIC Capt. Sklar) arrived on scene and stretched an attack line into the fire room and extinguished the fire. Engine 1231 (OIC LT. Bach), Tanker 1233 (OIC FF Funsch) and Rescue 1242 (OIC FF Pink) responded also to assist in extinguishing the fire and overhauling. Once the fire was extinguished, overhaul complete and the smoke was cleared out, the home was turned back over to the homeowner.
